Executive course with scenic vistas! Enjoy a fun round at this executive style course that is a part of the Los Angeles County Park System in Sylmar. There are three sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. From the back tees the course measures 4493 yards. From the shorter tees it measures 3540 yards. As a result, everyone in the family can enjoy this scenic test. El Cariso Golf Course plays to a par of 62. Its course rating is not far from that at 61.1. The slope from the back tees is 97.
Course Layout
This is a well-conceived layout for an executive course. With no par fives and a par of 62, El Cariso includes many ‘normal’ par threes and par fours, especially from the back tees. There are only a couple of par threes that are shorter. The shortest is 126 yards. A couple of the par threes will likely test your mid to long iron skills as they measure just under 200 yards. The final hole measures almost 400 yards.
Elgant in Design
El Cariso offers mountain vistas that will quickly ease the memory of that last bogey. The ponds add to a level of beauty that is uncommon among executive 18s. You’re likely to see a few ducks sunning themselves as well as an occasional rabbit scampering about. You might also see geese and even a hang glider or two.
Reviewers often comment on the nice people they meet and the relaxed pace of play. One golfer considers it his home course even though he drives past many others to get to it.
Creator
Robert Muir Graves designed this layout that opened for play in 1977. Trees have grown and course upgrades have continued over the years. The golf course includes practice facilities that feature a driving range and three practice putting greens. The range is lighted so you can work on your swing well into the evening. There is also a canopy over the hitting area to shield you from the sun.
Anyone Can Play
For those less interested in whaling away at balls on the range, executive courses like El Cariso are a great alternative, the golf course is considered by many to be one of the better values among the county courses. Enjoy a casual round while soaking up the scenery.
Group and individual lessons are available from the professional on staff. Consistent with many of the LA County golf facilities, El Cariso Golf Course offers banquet facilities for weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. One one side of the course is the growing Mission College campus.
